Val Kilmer, the celebrated actor known for his iconic roles in Top Gun, The Doors, and Batman Forever, passed away on April 1, 2025, at the age of 65. His daughter, Mercedes Kilmer, confirmed to The New York Times that he died of pneumonia on Tuesday. Kilmer was diagnosed with throat cancer in 2014 but later recovered.


Born Val Edward Kilmer on December 31, 1959, in Los Angeles, California, Kilmer developed a passion for acting at an early age. He attended the Juilliard School, where he became one of the youngest students ever accepted into the prestigious drama division. His early theater work laid the foundation for a remarkable career spanning decades.


Kilmer first gained attention in the 1980s with standout performances in Top Secret! and Real Genius, but it was his role as Iceman in 1986’s Top Gun that propelled him to stardom. Throughout the 1990s, he cemented his legacy with unforgettable performances in The Doors, where he portrayed Jim Morrison, Tombstone as the legendary Doc Holliday, and Batman Forever as the Caped Crusader.
