Skateboarding enthusiasts are in for a treat as legends Tony Hawk and Rodney Mullen come together for two exclusive events, "Tony Hawk and Rodney Mullen: Darkslides & Secret Tapes." These unique shows, scheduled at the Beacon Theater in New York on April 4 and at Austin City Limits Live in Austin, Texas, on August 7, promise an engaging journey through the careers and inspirations of these two giants of skateboarding.
The events are designed to offer fans a deep dive into Hawk and Mullen's extraordinary lives, featuring discussions about their impactful careers, the ways they've inspired each other, and their contributions to skateboarding innovation. This intimate experience is further enhanced with the screening of rare video footage, and the audience will have the opportunity to interact with Hawk and Mullen during a Q&A session. According to Mammoth's latest announcement, these are the only dates scheduled for this special collaboration.
Tickets for these must-see events will be available starting Friday, February 2nd, at 10:00 AM local time. New York show tickets can be purchased through Ticketmaster, and those for the Austin show through AXS.
Tony Hawk, who rose to fame as a professional skateboarder at the tender age of 14 and soon became known as the best in the world, is celebrated for completing the first-ever 900. His empire extends beyond the skate park, including the billion-dollar video game series Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater, Birdhouse Skateboards, Hawk Clothing, and the Tony Hawk Signature Series products, along with his film production company, 900 Films. Hawk is also the founder of The Skatepark Project, which aids underserved communities in building inclusive and safe skateparks.
Meanwhile, Rodney Mullen, revered as the "Godfather of Street Skating," is recognized for inventing numerous tricks that define modern skateboarding. Today's announcement highlights his extraordinary achievements, including an almost unbeaten championship record. Mullen's influence stretches beyond the skateboarding arena, notably into the scientific field, where he has explored the intersections between skateboarding and hacker cultures to foster innovation. His notable achievements include collaborations on scientific research, prestigious appointments at the MIT Media Lab and the Smithsonian, and a recent role at the Vancouver General Hospital's Department of Complex Pain & Addictions Services.
