Born Thomas Gordon Poston on October 17, 1921, in Columbus, Ohio, Tom Poston displayed an early passion for performing. He attended Bethany College in West Virginia before serving as a pilot in the U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II. After the war, Poston pursued a career in acting, studying at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City.


Tom Poston first gained widespread recognition for his work on "The Steve Allen Show" in the 1950s, where his comedic talent shone brightly. He continued to entertain audiences with memorable roles in television sitcoms, including George Utley on "Newhart" (1982-1990) and Franklin Delano Bickley on "Mork & Mindy" (1979-1981).
