STORYLINE:

The Witch (2016) is a chilling tale set in 1630s New England. The film follows a devout Christian family that is banished from their colonial plantation and forced to build a new life on the edge of a remote forest. Strange and disturbing occurrences begin to plague the family, and their youngest child disappears under mysterious circumstances. As suspicion and paranoia mount, the family members turn against each other, suspecting witchcraft. The film masterfully weaves themes of religious fervor, isolation, and fear into a haunting narrative that leaves audiences questioning the nature of evil.

STAFF REVIEW:

The Witch (2016) is a remarkable achievement in horror filmmaking, offering a deeply unsettling experience through its atmospheric storytelling and meticulous attention to historical detail. Directed by Robert Eggers, the film is anchored by strong performances, particularly from Anya Taylor-Joy as the eldest daughter, Thomasin. The film’s authenticity is enhanced by its use of period-accurate language and settings, creating an immersive and terrifying world.
