STORYLINE:

The Handmaiden (2016) is a captivating tale set in 1930s Korea, during the Japanese occupation. The story follows a young pickpocket named Sook-hee, who is hired by a conman to become the handmaiden to a wealthy Japanese heiress, Lady Hideko. The conman, posing as a Japanese Count, plans to seduce Lady Hideko, marry her, and commit her to an asylum to steal her fortune. However, unexpected emotions and secrets unravel as Sook-hee and Lady Hideko develop a complicated relationship, leading to twists and turns that challenge their loyalties and reveal deeper truths.
