STORYLINE:

"Scream" (1996) opens with a chilling scene that sets the tone for the rest of the film, as high school students in Woodsboro become the prey of a masked killer who has a penchant for horror movie trivia. Sidney Prescott, still reeling from the murder of her mother one year prior, finds herself at the center of the killer's twisted game. As the body count rises, Sidney and her friends must uncover the identity of Ghostface while navigating a maze of red herrings and suspecting those closest to them. "Scream" ingeniously blends suspense, satire, and genuine scares to explore the impact of horror films on both the characters and the audience.

STAFF REVIEW:

Wes Craven's "Scream" is a groundbreaking film that rejuvenated the horror genre with its intelligent script, well-crafted suspense, and meta-commentary on horror conventions. The film's self-awareness, combined with Craven's masterful direction and a talented cast, creates a thrilling and engaging experience that both honors and critiques the slasher tradition. Neve Campbell's performance as Sidney Prescott introduced a new kind of horror heroine, while Courteney Cox and David Arquette offered compelling subplots that enriched the narrative. "Scream" remains a cultural touchstone, influencing countless films and spawning a successful franchise.
