Re-Drafting the 2020 NBA Draft Lottery 5 Years Later

It's been 5 years since the 2020 NBA draft and today I think it would be fun to see where some of these players would go knowing what we know now.

Anthony Edwards

1. Minnesota Timberwolves - Anthony Edwards (-)

Stats: 23.1 PPG, 5.2 RPG, and 4.1 APG

Accolades: NBA All-Rookie Team member, a 2x NBA All-Star, 1x All-NBA

Playoff Games: 27

Ant has easily shown that he's still the best player in this draft and hopefully, the Wolves don't waste his prime years as they kind of did with Karl-Anthony Towns.

Tyrese Haliburton

2. Golden State Warriors - Tyrese Haliburton (+10)

Stats: 17.3 PPG, 3.7 RPG, and 8.6 APG

Accolades: NBA All-Rookie Team member, 1x NBA AST Champ, 2x NBA All-Star, 1x All-NBA

Playoff Games: 15

The Warriors whiffed with this pick, however, I imagine they wouldn't mind picking up Tyrese Haliburton here at 2 which in my opinion would fit very well next to Curry.

Lamelo Ball

3. Charlotte Hornets - Lamelo Ball (-)

Stats: 21.1 PPG, 6.1 RPG, 7.4 APG

Accolades: NBA All-Rookie Team member, Rookie of the Year, 1x NBA All-Star

Playoff Games: none

The Hornets lucked out here and were able to keep their original guy with the recent emergence of Haliburton becoming the second-best player in this draft. Lamelo just hasn't stayed very healthy in his first couple of seasons and the lack of success has made it difficult to determine where he should land.

Tyrese Maxey

4. Chicago Bulls - Tyrese Maxey (+17)

Stats: 18.8 PPG, 3.0 RPG, and 4.2 APG

Accolades: NBA Most Improved Player, and 1x NBA All-Star

Playoff Games: 41

While the fit isn't great I can't imagine Maxey falling any further than this. It would be interesting to think if the Bulls would actually pick Maxey here considering they had just drafted Coby White, but Maxey is a better player by far and could continue to rise up this redraft further down the line.

Desmond Bane

5. Cleveland Cavaliers - Desmond Bane (+25)

Stats: 17.3 PPG, 4.3 RPG, 3.5 APG

Accolades: NBA All-Rookie Team member

Playoff Games: 23

Bane would be an absolutely great pickup here for the Cavs I think he fits perfectly here next to Garland, also he is the biggest riser in this draft so far and has had a couple of seasons that were All-Star worthy.

6. Atlanta Hawks - Immanuel Quickley (+19)

Stats: 13.7 PPG, 3.4 RPG, 3.5 APG

Accolades: NBA All-Rookie Team member

Playoff Games: 13

This was a tough decision between a couple of guys, but I think the correct pick here is Quickley because I think his fit next to Trae Young would be pretty fun. While this backcourts defense isn't great offensively they should be pretty good with Trae's great passing and Quickley's speed they would be a tough duo to beat.

7. Detroit Pistons - Devin Vassell (+4)

Stats: 13.7 PPG, 3.7 RPG, 2.6 APG

Accolades: none

Playoff Games: none

Detroit's original pick was very questionable considering Tyrese Haliburton was still on the board, however, he's off the board now, and since the Pistons were still looking for a franchise guy after trading Andre Drummond the best player that they could pick up is Devin Vassell and while I don't think he's an All-Star caliber player I do think he is a very good player that every team should want.

8. New York - Onyeka Okongwu (-2)

Stats: 8.8 PPG, 6.1 RPG, 1.0 APG

Accolades: none

Playoff Games: 29

Okongwu would be a great pick for the Knicks here considering their constant struggle with center help especially when talking about Mitchell Robinson being injured every season. He's a little undersized, but he's still great defensively and a great rebounder for someone who isn't being fully utilized in Atlanta.

9. Washington Wizards - Jaden McDaniels (+19)

Stats: 9.8 PPG, 3.8 RPG, 1.4 APG

Accolades: 1x NBA All-Defensive Team member

Playoff Games: 22

Jaden is a perfect 3-D player and would've been a great player next to Bradley Beal and Westbrook he's exactly what the Wizards were looking for considering they had the worst defense in the 2020-21 season and he would've made an instant impact.

10. Phoenix Suns - Obi Toppin (-2)

Stats: 8.2 PPG, 3.3 RPG, 1.1 APG

Accolades: none

Playoff Games: 33

While I didn't hate the Sun's original pick (Jalen Smith) and to this day think they gave up on him too quickly because he became an impactful player for the Pacers and Bulls. Obi Toppin is a great pick as he would fit the Sun's timeline better and would've gotten tons of nice alley-oop opportunities being next to Chris Paul and Devin Booker.

11. San Antonio Spurs - Saddiq Bey (+8)

Stats: 14.1 PPG, 5.2 RPG, 1.8 APG

Accolades: NBA All-Rookie Team member

Playoff games: 6

While they miss out on Vassell in this redraft I think they still get a great player here. Bey is a good scorer although a bit inefficient and a solid defender. At this point in the draft you have to take the best available and there should be no question that Bey is the best prospect still available.

12. Sacramento Kings - Deni Avdija (-3)

Stats: 10.2 PPG, 6.0 RPG, 2.6 APG

Accolades: none

Playoff Games: none

The Kings lose out on their guy Haliburton who would eventually give them Sabonis, but I think Deni is a great player and is a perfect fit next to Fox. Deni is a solid all-around player and has a recent emergence averaging over 12 PPG in his last 2 seasons.

13. New Orleans Pelicans - Cole Anthony (+2)

Stats: 12.6 PPG, 4.3 RPG, 3.9 APG

Accolades: none

Playoff Games: 7

Cole Anthony would have been slightly higher, but he also still has struggled to be an efficient scorer and has seen his minutes decrease since his second season and his now getting just 12 minutes a game he will have to show this season some type of major improvement efficiency wise because he solid everywhere else.

14. Boston Celtics - Payton Pritchard (+12)

Stats: 8.4 PPG, 2.6 RPG, 2.4 APG

Accolades: 1x NBA Champion

Playoff Games: 58

The Celtics got a steal with Pritchard at the 26th pick and I imagine they would still take him, but just higher and he has been a perfect fit on this team. He also has had a breakout season this year and is in the running for the 6th Man of The Year award.
