STORYLINE:

Mudbound (2017) is a powerful drama set in the rural American South during and after World War II. The story follows two families—the white McAllans and the black Jacksons—who are bound together by the harsh realities of farm life. As both families struggle with the demands of the land, they also face the racial tensions and social injustices of the time. The return of Jamie McAllan and Ronsel Jackson from the war further complicates their lives, as they form an unlikely friendship that challenges the entrenched racism of their community. Mudbound is a poignant exploration of identity, prejudice, and resilience.

STAFF REVIEW:

Mudbound (2017) is a deeply moving film that masterfully captures the complexities of race, class, and family in post-war America. Directed by Dee Rees, the film features stunning performances from its ensemble cast, including Carey Mulligan, Jason Clarke, Mary J. Blige, Rob Morgan, and Garrett Hedlund. The cinematography by Rachel Morrison beautifully portrays the stark, unforgiving landscape of the Mississippi Delta, enhancing the film’s emotional impact.
