Julia Child was an American chef, author, and television personality who revolutionized home cooking in the United States with her approachable techniques and infectious enthusiasm for French cuisine. Julia passed away on August 13, 2004 at 91 years old, just a few days shy of her 92nd birthday.


Child's most famous work, "Mastering the Art of French Cooking," co-authored with Simone Beck and Louisette Bertholle, was published in 1961 and became a bestseller for its comprehensive guide to French cooking for American audiences.


Her television series, "The French Chef," debuted in 1963 and was one of the first cooking shows on American television, making Julia Child a household name. Her down-to-earth approach, humor, and willingness to make mistakes on camera endeared her to millions and demystified the art of French cooking for many Americans.


Throughout her career, Child received numerous awards and honors, including the Presidential Medal of Freedom. She continued to teach, write, and appear on television well into her later years, leaving a lasting legacy on American cooking and television.
