STORYLINE:

"Borat Subsequent Moviefilm" (2020) follows Borat Sagdiyev as he returns to America after a long hiatus, discovering a much-changed world engulfed by the COVID-19 pandemic and political turmoil. Tasked with delivering his daughter Tutar to a high-profile politician, Borat confronts his own misogyny and paternal instincts while navigating a series of outrageous encounters that highlight the absurdities of American culture and politics. The film cleverly blends scripted scenes with real-life interactions, blurring the lines between reality and satire, and offering a biting critique of societal norms, political division, and the media landscape.

STAFF REVIEW:

Sacha Baron Cohen's return as Borat is as audacious and insightful as ever. "Borat Subsequent Moviefilm" not only recaptures the shock value and humor of the original but also adapts to address the contemporary issues of its time. Maria Bakalova's performance as Tutar is a revelation; she brings depth, humor, and a surprising emotional core to the film. Directed by Jason Woliner, the sequel manages to be both hilariously funny and uncomfortably provocative, showcasing Cohen's unique ability to expose the absurdity and hypocrisy within American society. This sequel is a significant cultural moment, proving once again that comedy can be a powerful tool for social commentary.
